The AMS/EPA Regulatory Modeling System (AERMOD) is a steady-state, Gaussian plume dispersion model used to predict the ambient concentrations of air pollutants in the near-field (within 50 km) for a variety of regulatory purposes. One of the main inputs to this model is meteorological data. This data is generally derived from National Weather Service (NWS) Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) stations. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Air Resource Management has compiled 32 meteorological datasets using the AERMOD input data processor AERMET v.16216. These datasets each include five consecutive years of surface and upper air data from one NWS ASOS station and can be used for regulatory modeling purposes in the State of Florida including Prevention of Significant Deterioration (PSD) permit modeling.

While this data is free to download and use, consultation with Division modeling and permitting staff is recommended before commencing any regulatory modeling projects. Applicants should use professional judgement when choosing the most representative meteorological dataset for their project location keeping in mind that, in general, the most important influence on mesoscale meteorology in Florida is proximity to the coastline.
