Redesignation Request and Maintenance Plan for the Hillsborough-Polk County Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Nonattainment and Unclassifiable Areas

On October 9, 2019, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) submitted a proposed State Implementation Plan (SIP) revision, under the Clean Air Act, to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). DEP's submittal consists of a request to the EPA to redesignate the portions of Hillsborough and Polk counties that are designated as "nonattainment" and "unclassifiable," with respect to the 2010 revised SO2 National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS), to "attainment;" and a request to approve an associated maintenance plan that will ensure the continued attainment of the 2010 SO2 NAAQS in the area. The EPA approved the requests on February 20, 2020, with an effective approval date of March 23, 2020.
