They hold the key to some of our most treasured experiences, past, present and future.

With more than 1,000 springs in the state, and perhaps the largest concentration of freshwater springs on Earth, springs are purely and uniquely Florida. They are abundant with natural beauty and wildlife habitat, and they are a source of fresh water for rivers and streams. Florida springs and attractions contribute to local economies and the state’s tourism industry. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Florida's water management districts are committed to using science, planning and strong community partnerships to preserve this cherished natural resource for future generations. Florida’s upcoming budget provides $50 million in funding for springs, continuing the state’s record investments since 2011.
