The 4th Annual Florida Coastal Management Program's Annual Meeting — to be held in Pensacola, FL, on May 1-2, 2019 — brings together stakeholders and local, state and federal partners in an effort to broaden awareness of FCMP's activities, expand partnerships and discuss local coastal management issues. This year's event has a strong focus on resilience, living shorelines, sea level rise, public access and waterfront and restoration. The Florida Coastal Management Program is based on a network of agencies implementing 24 statutes that protect and enhance the state's natural, cultural and economic coastal resources. The goal of the program is to coordinate local, state and federal agency activities using existing laws to ensure that Florida's coast is as valuable to future generations as it is today. The first meeting was held in Tallahassee in 2016 as a statewide summit, discussing the program's activities and successes from the previous five years. Subsequent annual meetings have been held in different regions of the state to focus on local coastal management topics of interest. The 2017 meeting was held in St. Augustine and highlighted coastal management activities and locally relevant issues within Florida's northeast region. The 2018 meeting, held in Clearwater Beach, focused on resiliency, strong communities and risk preparedness in Florida's southwest region.
