The Florida Geographic Information Office (GIO) works to support the state’s efforts to improve the quality of geographic information systems (GIS) in Florida through coordination and collaboration with the larger GIS community.

By fostering an innovative environment where stakeholders work together, Florida benefits from the creation and distribution of discoverable and accessible spatial data for the public. The office strives to elevate the quality and use of geospatial sciences and technologies to support the diverse and critical missions of Florida’s state agencies. To succeed in this mission, GIO administers and monitors a number of initiatives.

Examples include:

  • Improve and make information more accessible through collective investment and coordination of geospatial data and systems.
  • Communication of statewide GIS pursuits and interests through this website, as well as other social media outlets.
  • Creation of a Statewide Geospatial Hub where anyone can search across the state’s GIS data to find and access the information they need.
  • Identify key data and services that bolster the state’s ability to respond to emergencies, initiatives and priorities.
  • Establish a common framework where state agencies can collaborate on datasets in real-time without the need to duplicate data.
