Narrator: DEP’s Coral Reef Conservation Program hosted a ribbon-cutting to celebrate the completion of a large-scale, agency-led coral reef restoration project in Fort Lauderdale.

In 2006, two vessel groundings caused severe coral damage. Although emergency restoration was performed, the sites were not recovering because loose rubble was inhibiting coral growth.

The project entailed collecting the rubble and placing boulders with concrete grout to stabilize the sites, recreating the natural seafloor and enabling important habitat recovery.
