Overview
The Florida Coastal Management Program is based on a network of agencies implementing 24 statutes that protect and enhance the state's natural, cultural and economic coastal resources. The goal of the program is to coordinate local, state and federal agency activities using existing laws to ensure that Florida's coast is as valuable to future generations as it is today.
The Florida Coastal Management Program's annual meeting brings together various stakeholders and partners (local, state and federal) to broaden awareness of the program's activities, expand partnerships and discuss local coastal management issues. The first annual meeting was held in Tallahassee in 2016, as a state-wide summit discussing the Program's activities and successes from the previous five years. Subsequent annual meetings are being held in different regions of the state to focus on local coastal management topics of interest. The 2017 meeting was held in St. Augustine and highlighted coastal management activities and locally relevant issues within Florida's northeast region.
This year's meeting will focus on a theme of resiliency, strong communities, and risk preparedness in the southwest region of Florida and will be held in the City of Clearwater on May 16-17, 2018.
