The Waste Cleanup Section is essentially a "Mini-CERCLA" or Superfund Section. We work on cleaning up sites with contaminated groundwater, soil and/or surface water. Most of our sites were contaminated prior to the enactment of environmental regulations or the source of contamination is unknown. We deal with a wide variety of contaminants, but the predominant contaminants are solvent from dry cleaners, paint manufacturers and industrial degreasing operations; pesticides from old manufacturing facilities, pesticide mixing areas and golf courses; fertilizer from manufacturing facilities or accidental spills; coal tar from old manufactured gas plants; metals from plating industries; and an assortment of contaminants including methane from old landfills. We also deal with junk yards, auto shredding operations, old lead battery waste, buried drums, etc.
