Florida’s public lands include forests, open green spaces, scenic waterways and coastlines that offer a variety of outdoor experiences. When Florida Forever funding is appropriated by the Legislature, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection distributes the funds to numerous state agencies and programs to purchase public lands in the form of parks, trails, forests, wildlife management areas and more. These lands are held in trust for the residents of Florida.

Celebrate

National Public Lands Day

Volunteers around the globe join forces each year to clean up our lands, our beaches and our waterways. Volunteers are critical to the mission of DEP’s Florida Park Service and other managed areas, often working side-by-side with staff to engage with the community, conduct stewardship projects and help maintain natural areas. Cleanup events are not limited to September. Volunteer opportunities are available year-round.
