The Florida Department of Environmental Protection/Florida Geological Survey (DEP/FGS) is dedicated to facilitating a culture of responsible environmental stewardship. This is achieved by proactively sharing knowledge through accessible geoscience data, active participation on advisory committees, research and assessment publications, websites, public and technical presentations, and educational activities.

Research and information generated by the FGS shapes public understanding of Florida’s geology. One of the priorities of FGS is effectively sharing that research in a way that translates well to all ages and demographics. The end goal of our outreach efforts is about building relationships that can be mutually beneficial over the long term, resulting in a more environmentally literate public.

As part of education and outreach, the Florida Geological Survey has a dedicated Internship Program for college and university students who are interested in gaining real-world experience in the geosciences. In addition, FGS hosts and takes part in many events throughout the year. FGS geoscientists are also available for classroom and organization visits. To schedule a speaker or ask a general question, please reach out to Mabry Gaboardi Calhoun.
