How long does my designation last? When do I renew?

Your Green School designation is valid for three (3) years from issue date. Renewals should be submitted ninety (90) days before designation expiration.

What do you look for in candidates?

We look for candidates willing to use best management practices to achieve goals that protect the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce waste. Best management practices are listed in the Resources section.

Why apply?

The Florida Green School Designation benefits the environment, helps designated schools improve the health of the community, and increases environmental literacy by connecting students, faculty and staff to the environment. Reducing water and energy use and reducing waste also reduces operating costs. Designated schools also receive technical assistance through the Florida Green School Designation Program website, where each designated school is featured. The website also provides access to best management practices, technical assistance and other resources.

Designated schools are also able to submit a nomination to the Florida Department of Education to be considered as an applicant for the national Green Ribbon School award, administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
