Celebrate Greenways and Trails Month with Us

In celebration of Florida Greenways and Trails Month, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Recreation and Parks invites Florida residents and visitors to explore the amazing greenways and trails found throughout the Sunshine State. Many families enjoy outdoor recreation on trails and realize the benefits of building strong bonds and making happy memories of time spent together. During these unfamiliar times, the Center for Disease Control recommends getting outdoors and staying physically active. Trails provide safe, clean open spaces where families can exercise, relieve stress and get fresh air while avoiding crowds and maintaining social distancing guidelines. The network of trails in Florida provides opportunities for a variety of activities for the whole family, including walking, running, riding bicycles, paddling or pushing a stroller. The benefits of outdoor recreation include lower blood pressure, improved fitness, improved mood, lower stress levels and more.

Celebrate Florida Greenways and Trails Month by participating in our Trailblazer Challenge.

Over the course of a month, could you walk the length of the Withlacoochee State Trail? Could you paddle the length of the Apalachicola River? How about bicycle the entire East Coast Greenway? Whatever your ability, the trailblazer challenge will motivate you to get out there and explore Florida’s Greenways & Trails!

Getting started is easy:

1. Sign up for the Trailblazer Challenge here.

2. Find a trail in the statewide network of trails using this Online Trail Guide.

3. Use your favorite fitness tracker to count your miles.

4. Submit the form each day you participate.

5. Reach milestones and win digital prizes.

Share your experiences on social media using #GreenwaysAndTrailsMonth and encourage your family members and friends to participate, too.
