Historic Photo of FGS Staff in the Field at Aspalaga, 1909

The FGS has generated tens of thousands of photographic images since its inception more than a century ago. These images encompass a wide variety of geologic and environmental subjects as well as historic maps of Florida and photos of some of the earliest Survey geologists in the field. In 2018, federal grant G18AS00010 was awarded through the USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program (NGGDPP) to the FGS to preserve over 12,000 of 35mm photo slides that are significant to the state of Florida and make them publicly available.

These slides of interest include Florida-related images (sinkholes, caves and springs), images related to holdings in our repository, and images for geoscience education (i.e., slides of dunes or rivers). While originals of these photos are housed in hard copy at the FGS Library, select digital collections are available online to the public. See the links provided below for access to our digital image collections.
