Bonita Springs Fire Control and Rescue District Station #4 is located at:

27701 Bonita Grande Drive
Bonita Springs, FL 34135

This station was constructed in 2006 and became a state firefighting training facility in 2013.  The facility is served by a municipal water supply system that provides its drinking water.  There are no wells on-site.  DEP conducted a site reconnaissance on April 1, 2019 and completed a preliminary site assessment April 23, 2019.  Groundwater, soil, sediment and surface water samples were collected.  Laboratory results indicate the presence of on-site groundwater contamination and soil contamination by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) at concentrations above provisional cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of the laboratory results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan.  By July 24, 2019, DOH completed the sampling of sixteen private potable wells around the facility and found no PFOA and PFOS exceedances above the Health Advisory Level.

DEP will continue to work with the City to develop a cleanup plan to remove or contain the contamination to prevent environmental impact and human exposure. A link summarizing important events at this facility is included below.  More information about this site can be accessed through DEP's information portal.  The Facility/Site ID is ERIC_7404.
