The city of Hialeah Training Facility is located at:

7590 West 24th Avenue
Hialeah, FL 33012

Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) has been used at this facility and is currently being stored on-site. Presently and for the past few years, the product Fire Aide has been applied. Prior to that product, Universal Gold was used at the facility. The foams were and are currently spent on impervious surfaces with some run-off collecting into a municipal storm drain. Drinking water is provided by the municipality.

A preliminary site assessment was conducted on Feb. 13, 2020. Groundwater, soil and sediment samples were collected for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These analytes are associated with firefighting aqueous film forming foam (AFFF).

The results of this initial sampling indicated that on-site groundwater was contaminated with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) at concentrations above the provisional ground water cleanup target level; soil samples were also impacted by PFOA and PFOS at concentrations above DEP’s provisional soil cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan. DOH reconnaissance efforts did not identify any drinking water supply wells in the area so it is has suspended site activities.

During 2022, DEP assumed project management duties associated with continued per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) assessment at the facility.

A link summarizing important events at this facility is included below.  More information about this site can be accessed through DEP's information portal.  The Facility/Site ID is ERIC_7419.
