The Coral Springs Facility is located at:

4180 NW 120th Avenue
Coral Springs, Florida 33065

This facility trains approximately 1500 individuals each year and has a staff of 100 part time instructors, 5 full time staff and 4 part time office assistants.  Types of training performed at the facility include Minimum Standards, Driver-Operator, Aerial Apparatus, Entrance exams, all FLUSAR classes, LFTI/LFAT, Promotional Testing, and In-Service Training.  This facility has used aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) which was applied onto the ground and impervious surfaces.  Spent fire-fighting water placed on impervious surfaces flows into a retention area that is connected to a storm drain.  No AFFF is stored on-site and the facility’s drinking water is supplied by a municipal system.

A preliminary site assessment was conducted November 7, 2019.  Groundwater, soil, sediment and surface water samples were collected. Analytical results were received December 3, 2019, indicating groundwater and soil concentrations of perfluorooctanoate acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) exceeding provisional cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan. DOH completed the sampling of five potable wells around the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety on May 8, 2020, and found no exceedances above the Health Advisory Level. DOH efforts are ongoing.

During 2022, DEP assumed project management duties associated with continued per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) assessment at the facility.
