The Lake Tech Fire Academy is located at:

1565 Lane Park Cutoff
Tavares, FL 32778

This facility has been operational since 1995 and is utilized for day use only training exercises.  Firefighting aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) was reportedly used on property until 3 to 5 years ago.  The facility is served by a municipal water supply system.

A site reconnaissance of the Academy was completed on February 26, 2019.  A preliminary site assessment (PSA) was conducted May 22nd, 2019 and results indicate that the analytes perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), which are associated with firefighting aqueous film forming foam (AFFF), were not present in concentrations above provisional cleanup target levels (CTLs) for ground water and soil.  A water sample collected from a stormwater collection box exceeded the ground water CTL for the combined total of PFOA and PFOS.  This result is for comparison purposes only because surface water does not have a PFOA/PFOS provisional cleanup target level.  The on-site retention ponds during this PSA were dry.  SIS returned to the facility on November 4, 2019 and collected two surface water samples.  Results were either nondetect or well below any applicable provisional cleanup target level.

A link summarizing important events at this facility is included below.  More information about this site can be assessed through DEP's information portal.  The Facility/Site ID is ERIC_7403.
