The Manatee Technical College Fire Academy is located at:

5530 Lakewood Ranch Blvd.
Bradenton, Florida 34211

This facility currently does not use nor store aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) on-site.  Less than 100 recruits each year participate in Florida Minimum Standards training.  Continuing education courses are provided for fire driver, inspector, fire officer and 1 & 2 fire service instructors training.  The facility is served by a municipal water supply system.  There are no wells on location.

On October 15, 2019, DEP and State Contractor staff completed sampling of soil and ground water at the facility.  Results of this initial sampling event indicated that perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) contamination was detected in both ground water and soil above provisional cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan. DOH reconnaissance efforts did not identify any drinking water supply wells in the area so it is has suspended site activities.

During 2022, DEP assumed project management duties associated with continued per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) assessment at the facility.

A link summarizing important events at this facility is included below.  More information about this site can be assessed through DEP's information portal.  The Facility/Site ID is ERIC_7420.
