The Pensacola Fire Department is located at:

1 North Q Street
Pensacola, FL 32501

This facility offers field and classroom activities and is utilized for day use only training exercises.  Aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) was reportedly used in limited amounts during the late 1990s.  The facility is served by a municipal water supply system.  A site reconnaissance of the facility was completed on February 25, 2019.

A preliminary site assessment was completed on June 17, 2019 which included eleven multi-depth soil sample locations and the collection of a groundwater sample from a temporary monitor well.

Laboratory results issued on August 13, 2019 indicated that groundwater was contaminated with perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) at concentrations above the provisional Groundwater Cleanup Target Level.  Soil samples also were reported to be contaminated with PFOA/PFOS at levels above provisional soil cleanup target levels.  The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has been requested to initiate a nearby potable supply well sample event. DOH completed the sampling of three potable wells around the Pensacola Fire Department on December 4, 2019, and found one well that exceeded the Health Advisory Level. DOH efforts are ongoing. DEP will continue to work with the City to develop a cleanup plan to remove or contain the contamination to prevent environmental impact and human exposure. A City consultant has commenced additional site assessment activities.

DEP’s Water Supply Restoration Program is providing bottled water to all interested affected private well owners whose test results exceeded the established EPA Health Advisory Level. This voluntary program also provides funding for a filter, well restoration or connection to public water system as necessary to ensure a safe drinking water supply. This bottled water supply will remain available until one of these options is in place.
