South Florida State College Fire Academy is located at:

600 West College Drive
Avon Park, Florida 33825

This facility offers field and classroom training activities.  The facility is served by a municipal water supply system.  There is one on-site well that supplies fire hydrants for training purposes.  A site reconnaissance of the facility was completed on May 30, 2019.  A preliminary site assessment was performed on June 13, 2019.  Environmental samples were collected from ten soil borings collected 0-1' and 1'-2' below land surface (20 total soil samples), one sediment boring from the retention pond north of the historical firefighting aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) usage area, one surface water sample from the retention pond, and groundwater samples from two temporary monitoring wells.  Also,  product samples were collected from a National Foam Universal Green fire-fighting foam product and a National Foam Training Foam product stored at the facility.

On July 18, 2019, the DEP Central Laboratory released its results in a certified report.  No groundwater sample results surpassed the provisional Groundwater Cleanup Target Level for the analytes perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), which are associated with AFFF.  No soil sample results exceeded provisional soil cleanup target levels for PFOA and PFOS.

A link summarizing important events at this facility is included below.  More information about this site can be accessed through DEP's information portal.  The Facility/Site ID is ERIC_7411.
