Tampa Fire Rescue Training Center

This facility is utilized for day use only training exercises.  It is served by a municipal water supply system that provides its drinking water.  The facility does not have any on-site wells.

On March 26 and 27, 2019, DEP and State Contractor staff completed sampling of soil, sediment, surface water and groundwater.  Based on the results of this initial sampling that were certified on May 14, 2019, on-site groundwater contamination by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) were detected above the Health Advisory Level (HAL), as well as soil contamination above DEP’s provisional soil cleanup target levels.

DEP advised the Florida Department of Health (DOH) of these results and directed them to develop and implement a community sampling plan. DOH completed the sampling of six potable wells around the Tampa Fire Rescue Training Center on July 24, 2019, and found no wells that exceeded the Health Advisory Level. DOH has since suspended site activities. 

DEP will continue to work with the City to develop a cleanup plan to remove or contain the contamination to prevent environmental impact and human exposure. A City consultant has commenced additional site assessment activities.
